Team G - LOVE ME RIGHT Review

Hi! This is going to be my last review for the blog. This one is on LOVE ME RIGHT by EXO, performed by Team G! Slight spoiler alert- while this performance has a few mistakes, it's still one of my favorite performances from this show. I decided to have LOVE ME RIGHT as my last blog because it's one of my favorites. One of my favorite trainees, Jay, is also in this performance so maybe that's why I like it so much. πŸ˜† Jay is a very strong vocalist and his visuals are also really great! He was definitely one of my top picks for Boys Planet. And in case you didn't know, Jay is from the United States (New Jersey)!!! Somehow I feel a deeper connection with him just because he's from the United States, haha.

Anyway, let's get into it!

You can watch the performance here: LOVE ME RIGHT - Team G
----

First of all, I've never heard LOVE ME RIGHT before so I didn't know what to expect from this performance. Right from the beginning, it sounds hip hoppy and bouncy, which I thought was nice! It's a great arrangement by the music producers.

At 0:10 is a close up of Jay; his facial expression is priceless!! 🀣 I love Jay's expressions, it brings a great vibe of comedy and stage presence to the performance. His expressions are really great, which was something we knew from episode 1 of Boys Planet. (You can see more of his great expressions from episode 1 here! I recommend watching this as a bonus just because this was a really great short performance by Jay and Kamden.)

Moving on, Wumuti starts off the song with "Ooh yeah, come on!" which was performed flawlessly. It sounded perfectly in tune and handed the baton off to Jay, the main vocalist, just as great as it sounded. From Jay's first line, you can't really tell how great of singer he is but trust me, it gets better! I really liked the "na na na na" of all of their voices combined though! Their voices surprisingly sound harmonious with each other, which makes me think if it was a coincidence or if Dang Hong Hai (the one who picked the members) just secretly knew they would sound great together.

After that is Anthonny's line- which sounds a bit off at first. It's not that bad, but his voice throughout the performance tends to sound a little flat which makes his voice sound off pitch. It's said by some singers that people who sing with a flatter tone tend to sound better than those with a sharper tone (this was mentioned by one of the vocal trainers in Boys Planet as well!), but in this case, I don't think Anthonny's voice sounded that great and it's very noticeable despite him not being that off-key.

Next up is Winnie's rap! I think Winnie did a decent job at rapping actually. At first I thought his pronunciation sounded a little breathy and rounded at the end of his lines, but when I listened to the original, it actually sounds like that! So even though I found it to be weird, I think Winnie has the right sounds to his rap because it sounds similar to the original.

The rap is then transitioned to Haruto, who's a great rapper! He's one of my favorite rappers in Boys Planet because of this performance. In a previous survival show, he only showcased his dancing so he was told that he wasn't good enough to be an idol because he needed to know how to sing or rap; he couldn't survive just from dancing alone. His appearance in Boys Planet really showed that he worked hard on both his singing and rapping to compliment his dancing! Anyway, his English pronunciation is really good (he used to live in the United States!) and I really like the way he separates the syllables of his words for a good rap flow. His entire rapping line is just really great to listen to.

We jump into the chorus at 0:51! I love how energetic their choreography is. It's very joyful and makes me want to dance along with them; that's what good choreography should be. It's nothing too complex but it fits the song well and looks good! The song is also just really catchy too, it makes me want to dance no matter what.

While the chorus has multiple people singing, I feel like Jay and Wumuti's voices are very recognizable and easily distinguishable from the other's voices. But it's not a bad thing because their voices, despite being distinguishable, mesh really well together that they don't stand out in a bad way. This is a really unique quality of both Jay and Wumuti's voices, it's really cool! I would also like to add that Jay's adlibbing lines sound really great and give the song some spice! It doesn't stand out too much but sounds amazing at the same time.

For the dance at 1:09, I think it was really cute of them to come up with the idea of painting hearts on their hands. It reminds me of the paint from Team G's Kill This Love performance, but this one is used in a cute way. They open their hands and face their palms to the audience, revealing the heart in their hand (if you didn't notice it earlier... because I didn't notice them when I first watched the performance. πŸ˜†) I really enjoy small details like this!

For 1:19, Anthonny has another line that also sounds a bit flat, but I think it sounds a bit better! It's just a bit flat; possibly a half step flat? Just a bit higher and I think he would've gotten it! He still has good stage presence though.

Wumuti actually doesn't have a lot of parts, but all the parts he does sound really good in my opinion. This part: "μ†μ‚μ—¬μ€˜ λ‚΄κ²Œλ§Œ (Soksangnyeo jwo naegeman)" is actually one of the parts I really like from this performance. It's also what leads into the BEST part of the performance... Jay's time to shine as the main vocalist! πŸ₯Ή

"λ°€ν•˜λŠ˜μ„ λ„ˆμ™€ λ‚΄κ°€ (Bamhaneureul neowa naega)" sang by Jay is AMAZING!!!! This is the most replayed part of the entire performance- that's just how iconic this is! Jay sang this high note with incredible clarity, stability, and pitch. He's such an incredible singer. This is such an iconic scene for me and many other Boys Planet watchers. When I thought he already stole our hearts from the first episode, it was clear from this episode that he stole even more of our hearts with this.

Now just a small little thing, but I think Haru's wink and peace sign at 1:38 was really cute and a good thing to spice up the choreography with. Haruto's 😯 expression at 1:43 is also really cute! The small fan service moments can actually impact a performance quite a lot. I love how fun and energetic this song is and I can tell that the trainees on stage are also having a lot of fun performing it. The body language of the performers is also a really important piece of performing arts; they're conveying the feeling of fun and joy perfectly!

At 1:44 is when Jay starts to do some layering adlibs and they sound amazing! I feel like everything that comes out of this man's mouth is a 5 star meal. Why is his voice so good? Jay harmonizes with Wumuti at 1:50 and that also sounds incredibly heavenly. Nothing but praises for both Wumuti and Jay. Jay's smile at 1:52 is also really cute, I love it! The hair flip too! He has so much charisma!

Dang Hong Hai and Anthonny's voices after that sound a little off pitch and out of breath, but when they all start singing together, it sounds really good. They ended on a really good note and Wumuti's ending line: "λ‚΄ μš°μ£ΌλŠ” μ „λΆ€ λ„ˆμ•Ό (Nae ujuneun jeonbu neoya)" was executed perfectly. Then they all point to the heart on their hands! Super cute! This was a perfect ending.

That's all I have for Team G's LOVE ME RIGHT performance! Team K also performed LOVE ME RIGHT, which you can watch here if you're interested, but I actually like Team G's more. It's a little funny because Team K actually won, but Team G is the winner in my heart. I hope you enjoyed LOVE ME RIGHT just as much as I do, and I hope you've become a fan of Jay's as well! Thank you for reading! πŸ˜„
